JACS is a charitable organization, heavily assisted by volunteers, dedicated to directly helping those affected by drug abuse and alcoholism, and educating Toronto’s Jewish community about the disease of addiction. Since launching in 2000, JACS has seen dramatic year-over-year increases in demands for our programs and services. JACS has now become an essential community service for Jews of every denomination, which have come to rely on JACS when they are at their most vulnerable.

As JACS continues to shine a light on addiction on our community, more and more are coming out of the shadows to seek help. JACS has no choice but to grow so as to accommodate the increasing number of people arriving at our door.

The only limits JACS has to the help it can provide are the resources available to us.

We can not do it alone. Help JACS grow and bring hope to those suffering among us.

Outreach and Education Programs

Help JACS get the word out to community at large.

JACS is the only voice in Toronto actively reaching out to the Jewish community to educate about the disease of addiction. JACS staff and volunteers are regular speakers at public and private Jewish schools, summer camps, shuls, community associations, and numerous other venues.

Your contribution to JACS’ Outreach and Education Program will allow us to expand the range of programs JACS offers. Our goal is to reach and educate as many people as is possible. With your help, we can reach and educate more.

Teens

Help develop and expand JACS’ innovative programming for the most vulnerable among us.

Demand for JACS teen programs has been overwhelming. Since launching in September 2006, the Benji Hayward Teen Program has seen a rapid increase in the number of new teens coming to its open Sunday night meeting, and a steady increase of teens returning to the meeting week after week. This demand has caused JACS to launch a second phase for the program with a third now in development.

For the Benji Hayward Teen program, JACS conducts two special events every year to raise funds and public awareness of the program. The first such event, held in May 2006, was a high-school “Battle of the Bands” featuring celebrity guests, such as radio personality Todd Shapiro from The Edge 102.1.

JACS is also actively engaged in outreach programs to teens and young adults. JACS staff and volunteers speak regularly at local public and private Jewish schools, and venture north in the summer to conduct outreach programs at Jewish overnight summer camps.

To grow its innovative programs, and continue with outreach and special events, JACS needs your help. We are looking for donations for the programs, as well as goods in kind.

These include:

• JACS’ branded teen keepsakes (such as key chains, carabineers, coffee mugs, etc.)
• Event prizes (larger dollar value items or services)
• Raffle prizes (smaller dollar value items or services)

Events
Use your contribution to enable JACS to hold essential events.

JACS holds a number of annual and one-off special events to raise awareness and funds. Hundreds of people and special guests attend the events, which tend to be the highlights of JACS calendar. There are numerous sponsorship opportunities available for each event, which include sponsoring food and refreshments, advertising, and special speakers or guests. The following is a list of some of the annual events JACS holds:

Scholarships

Enable those less privileged to attend retreats and events essential to their recovery.

JACS hopes to never turn away someone from a special event or retreat just for the reason that they can’t afford it. JACS has created a special scholarship fund to ensure that anyone interested in an event can participate.
